25 metre Swimming Pool Raised and Re-levelled

Meticulous, precision lifting at Monto in Qld

The Uretek team worked very carefully for about ten days to return this large pool to level to enable its reticulation system to function properly again.

Meticulous, precision lifting at Monto in Qld

Ten days in the blazing Queensland sun made a sun-shielding tent a necessity! An excellent result made it all worthwhile!

Rural Queensland Swimming Pool Relevelled

The township of Monto, two hours west of Bundaberg has a public swimming pool 25m long. The pool had sunk into the ground by up to 200 mm toward the deep end.

The water would no longer drain to the shallow end, meaning the pool reticulation system would not work and the pool water could not be filtered properly.

There were three options: 1. to re-do the plumbing and replace the filter system (at a cost of about 50K) however the pool would still be out of level,  2. to build a new aquatic centre (at an estimated prohibitive cost 3-4 million), or 3. simply to have Uretek Ground Engineering re-level the pool.

As the logical choice, Uretek were commissioned to lift the pool back to level under the direction of Andre Nunn, the Uretek Area Projects Manager.

Pre-cast Panel Pool Construction Calls for Very Careful Planning

The pool had been built using a number of precast concrete sections.  The walls were precast with flat bases and infill concrete precast sections formed the floor.  The floor joints were set down with mastic filler and vertical joints were mastic filled.

The goal for the Uretek team was to get the pool as close to level as possible.

Due to the precast sections this created issues with lifting. Over-lifting any one section could break the joint.  Also, due to its large precast base, the wall could easily rotate inwards or outwards.  Additionally, as the floor slab was sitting on a step joint,  the internal slab could not be lifted as this could have caused this slab to lift at the joint and could not be lowered once this joint had been filled.

This meant a slow process of lifting each precast wall section a little bit at a time, and slowly bring the pool back to an acceptable level.  Once this was done the correction of levels was proved by pouring water in the gutter. It now flowed to the shallow end again. Uretek then very carefully filled the voids under the internal pool slab.

Swimming Pool Relevelling Proved Extremely Successful

The result was extremely successful. Trevor Harvey from the North Burnett Regional Council was elated with the result. He congratulated the Uretek team on an excellent job carried out over about ten days in extremely hot conditions and achieving the desired result.  The Uretek Supervisor was Ryan Eddington, who ran the job very well and from his experience was able to pick the right injection location and depth to ensure joints were not damaged.  He was well supported by team members Scott Rudge and Steven Chee.
